The Open Alpha is free and runs in your browser. The full release is planned as a premium game with optional content expansions rather than real-money gacha or pay-to-win pulls.

Is this a rhythm game?

No. Beat Baes is a physics action roguelike first, and the fight is always yours to steer — there is no note highway and nothing waits on the soundtrack for permission. Music and rhythm are a core direction for where the game is going, not a shipped mechanic: the alpha you can play today is the physics game. When rhythm does start doing real work, it will be in the build before it is in the pitch.

What will I need to play?

A desktop browser and a mouse/keyboard. Chrome and Firefox are the best-tested targets. Controller support is planned long term but not yet confirmed.

How long is a run?

Individual battles are fast — often under a minute. A first successful full run currently targets roughly 20–30 minutes.

Is this gacha?

No real-money gacha. Runs may use gacha-like reward presentation — reveal three, keep one — because randomized drafting is fun on its own. The commercial direction is a premium game plus optional content, not paid character pulls.

Experimental only, for now. Beat Baes is a single-player physics action roguelike first; multiplayer earns further investment only if testing proves it materially improves the game.

Is this the Steam demo?

Not yet. The itch/browser Open Alpha is what is live today. A successful validation gate moves the project toward a production-engine build and a Steam Coming Soon / demo campaign.

All playable Baes are adults. The visual direction can be suggestive and fanservice varies by character, but the alpha is not explicit. Any future mature content will be disclosed and rated based on what actually ships.

Once you are in the alpha: play it, give specific feedback, and share good clips. If real support demand shows up, Barely Playable Games will open a studio Patreon to help fund character art, VO, animation and other visible production upgrades.

Is Beat Baes AI-generated?

Beat Baes is a self-funded passion project, built mostly by one developer with occasional help from friends. Generative AI helped us prototype the game, explore its visual direction and stand up temporary assets on a solo budget, so the current alpha may contain AI-generated or AI-assisted artwork, UI, audio and writing. Those are placeholders, not the intended final product — the plan is to progressively replace every player-facing AI-generated asset with original human work before any full commercial release, and we are actively looking for artists and collaborators to help. Game design, mechanics, creative direction and the characters themselves — personalities, classes, abilities, cultural direction and gameplay — are human-directed. AI may keep assisting with prototyping and tooling; the final player-facing creative work is meant to be human-made.
